Female Minister Restricted From Public Functions Over Certificate Saga

The minister of culture and creative economy, Ms Hannatu Musawa may have been restricted from public functions as a possible political solution to the saga over her appointment while still a Corps member, the director-general of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Brig-Gen Dogara Ahmed inferred on Friday.

Speaking in an interview on AIT, he dismissed insinuations that the issue of Musawa’s membership of the NYSC scheme and continuation as a minister has been swept under the carpet.

GWG.ng reports that Musawa recently became a focus of national controversy after she was revealed to be still partaking in her NYSC scheme following controversies over her service in the past.

She had been declined an appointment by the Senate during the Muhammadu Buhari administration over her NYSC status, a development that apparently made her to resume the service this year in Abuja.

Asked about the status of the minister while speaking on AIT’s Kakaaki programme on Friday morning, Brig-Gen Ahmed and as to whether one can be a serving NYSC member and take up an appointment elsewhere, he said:

“No you cannot do that. Once you are serving, you are a serving corp member and you finish your service before you go and take up appointment. That is how it is.”

Asked whether the issue of Minister Musawa has as such been swept under the carpet, the NYSC boss said:

“I don’t think that there is any saga there. The issue was raised and I am sure that in the last few months you cannot tell me that you have seen the minister in any function. As far as we are concerned she is our Corp member and she remains our Corp member and I am not sure you have seen her perform any function as a minister anywhere in recent times. She is our Corp member there is no saga anywhere,” the NYSC DG said in a tone that indicated that Musawa had been restricted from public functions while still serving.

Asked on challenges faced by people while preparing for service, he said:

“Some of these things are done out of ignorance. When they come we tell them what to do.

“What I will suggest is that people should act within the law and anything you are ignorant of or not aware of, please ask questions from those that know better so that they will educate you.
