Tears As Immigration Service Loses Officers In Fatal Road Accident
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has been thrown into mourning following the loss of several officers in a tragic road accident along the Kano-Zaria Expressway on Sunday morning.
This unfortunate incident claimed the lives of two officials from the NIS musical band and another from the Public Relations Unit of the Service. The fatal crash occurred when a tire of the official NISSAN bus, bearing the plate number Immigration HQ, 1001S, burst while the officers were returning to Abuja from Kano State.
Although the Service is yet to issue an official statement, reliable sources within the NIS revealed that the deceased officers had accompanied the acting Comptroller-General of Immigration, Mrs. Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju, to Kano State for the Presidential Commissioning and Passing Out Parade (POP) of the 48th Superintendent Basic Course 2023 at the Immigration Training School in Kano (ITSK) on Saturday.
Contrary to speculations about no survivors, the source, requesting anonymity, clarified that three officers died on the spot due to head injuries sustained as the bus somersaulted several times. He stated that other officers with varying degrees of injuries were promptly taken to the hospital for treatment, with their lives hanging in the balance.
The NIS national headquarters witnessed a somber atmosphere as scores of sympathizers, spouses, and children of the affected officers gathered, wailing uncontrollably following the accident. They anxiously await an official declaration from the Service after viewing a viral video of the accident scene. Sunday has indeed been a Black Sunday for the Immigration Service.
