The traditional ruler of Igbu-Akoh Kingdom in Ahoada-East local government area of Rivers State, Eze Cassidy Ikegbidi, along with over 50 others, have been remanded in the Port Harcourt Maximum Correctional Centre. The remand follows their indictment in the murder of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in-charge of Ahoada Police Division, SP Bako Angbashim.

The accused face an array of charges, including murder, attempted murder, conspiracy, cultism, and kidnapping. The defense counsel, Uchechukwu Igbegiri, sought bail for the defendants during the court proceedings. However, the prosecuting counsel, SP Enyiyepere Sikpi, vehemently opposed the bail application, citing the serious nature of the charges.

In a decisive ruling, Justice Sika Henry Apirioku ordered that Eze Cassidy Ikegbidi, and the other defendants be remanded at the Port Harcourt correctional centre. The court has scheduled November 21, 2023, for plea-taking and the consideration of the defendants’ bail applications. This legal action underscores the gravity of the accusations, emphasizing the need for a thorough and fair legal process to unfold.

The remand decision by the Rivers State High Court marks a significant development in the ongoing case, reflecting the judiciary’s commitment to addressing heinous crimes. The accused individuals now await further legal proceedings, highlighting the importance of a meticulous and unbiased examination of the evidence presented before the court.
