Senator Nwoye Hails Tinubu, Umahi As FG Approves Road Contract Cutting Anambra-Abuja Journey By Three Hours
Senator Tony Nwoye, Anambra North has expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the minister of works, Senator Dave Umahi over the award of the contract for the Innomma-Iheaka-Abaji road which is expected to cut off three hours from the travel time between Anambra and Abuja.
GWG.ng reports that after years of abandonment, work is set to begin on the abandoned road following the provision for the road in the 2023 Supplementary Budget.
The Otuocha-Nzam-Inoma-Iheaka-Abaji road which is a 30-kilometre road that was awarded on December 3, 2009 by the administration of then President Umaru Musa Yar’adua to NigerCat Construction Limited.
The company was able achieve first binder asphalting of 7km out of the 30km road before the project stopped. Also, due to the dam flushing in Cameroun in 2017, the entire area surrounding the project was flooded and the road was submerged.
However, Dr Tony Nwoye as a member representing Anambra East and Anambra West in the House of Representatives in the 8th National Assembly had made passionate appeal for the road to be included in the National Budget for reconstruction and rehabilitation, writing several letters to the Federal Ministry of Works to that effect.
GWG.ng reports that having been elected as a Senator representing Anambra North in the 10th National Assembly, he reactivated this demand for the reconstruction of the road culminating in the inclusion of the project in the 2023 supplementary budget.
Dr. Tony Nwoye who was highly elated over the decision to re-award the road contract lauded President Tinubu, the minister of works, Senator Umahi and the Senator Godswill Akpabio leadership of the Seante.
Dr Tony Nwoye further reassured that the contractor will move to site immediately the water level drops and once funds are made available.
He further said that upon completion of the road, journey from Anambra to Abuja would be reduced by at least two to three hours, just as many communities along the road would be opened up.
