OAU Student Hospitalized After 58-Hour Handwashing Marathon – Watch Video
A 200-level student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Subair Enitan, who aimed to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest individual handwashing marathon, has concluded her attempt after 58 hours. Originally planned for 50 hours, Enitan, however, surpassed her goal but ended up in the hospital.
The conclusion of the marathon was announced on the official social media platforms of the event. In a circulating video, Enitan was seen in a hospital bed with her hands visibly affected—turned white and wrinkled—due to the extended handwashing.
Despite the completion of the marathon, Guinness World Records has not officially recognized Enitan as the holder of the longest individual handwashing marathon.
Enitan commenced the marathon on Friday afternoon, November 24, at the Student Union Building Motor park inside the University campus. Throughout the attempt, thousands of students rallied in support, drumming encouragement for her unusual feat.
