2023 Nigeria Decides
Obaseki’s ‘Successor’ Makes Controversial Arrival (Video)
Corporate lawyer, Asue Ighodalo widely reported to be Governor Godwin Obaseki’s choice as a successor in Edo State has formally introduced himself to his community members in Ewohinmi with a plea for support.
GWG.ng reports that Ighodalo’s first political act has, however, been laced with controversy as he was seen in the video that has now gone viral speaking through an interpreter to his community members.
Ighodalo is mobilizing for his aspiration on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the party that is presently governing the state but is presently divided at least along three lines.
The video of Ighodalo mobilizing for support also debunks the claim by one of the aspirants, Philip Shaibu to the claim that he, Ighodalo was not interested in the contest.
The outgoing deputy governor was quoted to have recently said in a television interview that Ighodalo claimed not to be interested in the politics of replacing Obaseki.
Meanwhile, some critics of Governor Obaseki have been quick to point out that the outgoing governor was set to bring another stranger after him to govern the state after him.
Besides PDP chiefs in the mainstream of the party who have questioned his knowledge of the state, Shaibu has in his public assertions averred that somebody who does not know the state will waste time adjusting to take the state forward.
GWG.ng reports that the dynamics of politics may have injected Ighodalo into the race but his capacity to come out as Obaseki’s successor will largely depend on the traction he is able to pull on ground within Edo State.
