Nigerian stand-up comedian and filmmaker, Ayodeji Richard Makun, popularly known as AY, has revealed that hurtful reactions to his jokes impact him as a human, leading him to exercise caution in choosing certain jokes.

AY recently issued a public apology to music superstar Davido in October for a pregnancy joke about the singer, expressing genuine regret and clarifying that his intention was never to cause harm.

Speaking in a recent interview with media personality Toke Makinwa, he attributed bloggers’ sensationalism to misinterpreting his jokes.

In the interview, AY emphasized the human aspect of his reactions, stating, “I’m human. When that joke came out, the timing wasn’t right because sensationalism now became a part of it.” He highlighted how bloggers can manipulate headlines, leading to misconceptions and negative public reactions. AY expressed concern about the impact such reactions can have on him as a person.

Acknowledging the seriousness of the situation, AY mentioned being cautious about the jokes he will present during his upcoming UK tour, emphasizing the need to avoid potential trouble. Despite the challenges, he recognized the nature of his chosen profession, stating, “But all the same, this is the life I chose. This is business for me. I’ll go ahead and do my thing.”
