Landlady's case

Mrs. Imabong William, a tenant in Enugwu-Ukwu, Anambra has sought assistance from Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his wife, Dr Nonye Soludo, after a distressing incident where her landlady, Amaka Okonkwo, allegedly poured a scalding mixture of hot water and pepper on her.

The horrifying incident that transpired on August 17, 2023, has left Mrs. William hospitalized with excruciating pain and mounting medical bills. Unable to afford further care, she appealed for help as her treatment was halted due to an accumulated bill of N650,000.

In desperation, Mrs. William reached out to state authorities and compassionate Nigerians for immediate assistance.

The landlady, currently in police custody, allegedly assaulted Mrs. William over a disagreement on rent increment. Mrs. William, a trader from Akwa Ibom State, received treatment at Zion Hospital, Nawfia, Njikoka Local Government Area.

Still feeling scald burn pain, the hospital stopped medications for over a month due to accumulated bills. Mrs. William expressed concern for her two-year-old’s safety in the hospital and shared her predicament, stating, “Even to feed has been difficult, and my two-year-old baby who is staying with me in the hospital is not safe because she can contract disease here.”

She appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Dr. Nonye Soludo, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, and well-meaning individuals for assistance. Mrs. William emphasized, “Whatever the government feels that it can do in order to assist is welcome, my health and life depend on it.”

The hospital staff anonymously confirmed moving Mrs. William to a maternity ward, and discontinuing medication to prevent the accumulation of her medical bill.
