The Federal Government has initiated the disbursement of salary arrears to N-Power beneficiaries, addressing a lingering issue from the previous administration.

The announcement came from the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, during her appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Thursday.

Minister Betta Edu assured that the payment process would persist until every beneficiary receives their due.

“We were in the office yesterday up until the early hours of this morning, just to ensure that young people get monies which they have been owed from the last government,” stated Minister Edu. She emphasized the government’s commitment to reducing unemployment and generating job opportunities for Nigerians through these initiatives.

Highlighting the transparency of the processes, Minister Edu mentioned plans to leverage technology for better accessibility. A dedicated portal will be created to provide transparent access to the names of beneficiaries across all social intervention programs.

Regarding the revamped N-Power program, the minister clarified that its official relaunch is pending. The Renewed Hope N-Power initiative is still in the process of addressing issues inherited from previous years. Minister Edu acknowledged the outstanding salary concerns, revealing that some beneficiaries were owed for three, six, or even eight months.

In explaining the delay, she revealed that a consultant responsible for managing payments had held up the funds without disbursing them to the beneficiaries. To rectify this, the government recovered the funds into the government’s TSA CBN account and initiated a thorough scrutiny of beneficiaries, a process that took time to ensure accuracy and fairness in distribution.
