Betta Edu Mum, Presidency Launches Probe As New ‘Scandal’ Emerges
The presidency has stepped in to investigate the controversies of financial malpractises being made against the minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr Betta Edu just as a new scandal over approvals for air tickets for a trip to Kogi State emerged on Sunday.
The presidency’s disclosure of a probe came as a new scandal over the approval by Dr Edu of flight tickets, airport taxi fares for a trip to Kogi State which does not have an airport emerged on Sunday.
“The matter is under investigation,” the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, told Daily Trust.
The presidency’s stance came after a viral document signed by her and directed to the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, Edu directed the disbursement of N585.189 million into the personal account of one Bridget Mojisola Oniyelu’s emerged.
The leaked document revealed that the money was paid into Oniyelu’s account.
The minister had, in a statement on Friday by her Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Rasheed Zubair, said the payment followed due process.
The Accountant General of the Federation, AGF has, however, disputed the claim.
Meanwhile, a new scandal emerged on Sunday after a document showing that Dr Edu approved N200,000 as flight tickets, N20,000 as airport taxis among others for her advance team for a trip to Kogi State.
The document which is being shared on twitter is against the background of the fact that there is no airport in Kogi State to have led to the approval.
Dr Edu who had until now not been indicted of impropriety is yet to respond to the latest alleged scandal.
