Police Arrest Suspect in Brutal Assault on Officers Caught on Viral Video

The police on Monday, January 8 announced that the man who was filmed in a video brutally assaulting police officers in Lagos has been apprehended after weeks of evading authorities. Spokesperson for the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin made the announcement.

The incident, which occurred on Friday, December 8, 2023, saw the suspect, identified as Akinyemi, launch a vicious attack on police officers. The assault, captured in a 26-second video that later went viral online, revealed the suspect grabbing one officer by his shirt and issuing threats before turning his aggression towards a second officer who was filming the confrontation.

Following the assault, Akinyemi went into hiding, triggering a manhunt by law enforcement. The video showcased the severity of the attack, leaving at least one officer with a severe head injury.

On his official Twitter handle, SP Benjamin wrote; “After weeks on the run, Akinyemi Akintayo aged 39yrs of Ayobo has been arrested and arraigned for his serious assault on police officers on December 8, 2023.”
