Just hours after the surprising dissolution of the Ondo State Executive Council, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has taken a swift step by nominating Chief Olayide Owolabi Adelami, the former Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly, as his choice for deputy governor.

GWG.ng reports that Governor Aiyedatiwa moved to his predecessor’s base in Owo in naming his deputy governor and as such sustaining the political balance between Ondo North and South that brought the former governor to power.

Adelami, who had previously aspired for the governorship seat under the All Progressive Congress in 2020, brings his wealth of experience to this new role.

Governor Aiyedatiwa has promptly submitted Adelami’s name to the state House of Assembly for ratification, signaling a proactive move in the state’s political landscape. The confirmation of Adelami’s nomination now awaits the legislative process, and it is anticipated to unfold in the coming days.

Ebenezer Adeniyan, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, affirmed the nomination of Chief Olayide Owolabi Adelami for the position of Ondo deputy governor. This decision highlights the governor’s resolve to fill this crucial position swiftly after the dissolution of the Executive Council, ensuring a seamless transition and continuity in governance.

Hailing from the Owo area of the state, Adelami has a longstanding history of service, having retired from the National Assembly in April 2018. His nomination reflects not only his individual credentials but also adds a strategic and experienced figure to the leadership structure of Ondo State. As the legislative process unfolds, citizens and political observers will keenly follow the proceedings to witness the confirmation of Chief Olayide Owolabi Adelami as the new deputy governor.
