How Kogi Political Leader Led Gun Attack On Our Hospital – Doctor

A doctor at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Kogi, with the X Official name, Dr Currency, how a prominent political leader in the state and official of the State House of Assembly led gunmen to attack his hospital.

Dr Currency corroborated the incident with multiple videos he shared on his X official account while narrating his terrifying ordeal. 

He began, “My team was called to the A&E to review a new patient. A group of men in kaftan broke through the gate and started demanding for the doctors on duty. Apparently, they lost a patient. And they came for the doctors. One of them, I learnt, is a political leader.

“I was looking at them, confused, because I don’t even know the patient in question. Next thing I know, the leader stoned his phones at me. We were just 3 doctors there. We stood up from there and went inside. They broke into the room where we were, he held me and my male colleague, almost tearing our shirts. I was too confused to speak; they were so many. We managed to break away from the A&E and left to another ward.

“These men started destroying things in the A&E, beating any worker they saw, nurses, doctors, security. The CSO came at them with a gun, as they had become really violent. They wrestled the gun from the man, with several shots released during the struggle. The hospital gate was locked. We are currently hiding in different locations in the hospital.”

Dr Currency pointed out that the man  in white kaftan in the video was the one that assaulted them. “He’s in the Kogi state house of assembly. He was the one that stoned his phones at me, hit me and my colleague, and led the violence. Here you can see him trying to wrest the gun out of the CSO”.

He further lamented, “We are currently dealing with a lassa fever outbreak. All the doctors in the O&G dept. are currently receiving prophylaxis for lassa fever, because they had an exposure. The labour ward was shut down today because there is no manpower. Now they are attacking the few of us left?”

At about 8:51 pm on Tuesday night, Dr Currency confirmed that he was safe. “I am safe now. My colleague was badly hit in the chest. He’s currently doing a chest X-ray. I have not been able to go home. I don’t feel safe leaving the hospital”.
