Tips To Maintain Healthy Eyes
At least one billion people globally have near or distance vision impairment and lack healthy eyes, situations that could be prevented or are yet to be addressed. Vision impairment affects people of all ages, with the majority being over age 50.
Live hydrated
Sufficient fluid intake is essential to your body’s overall wellbeing, including the eyes. If you’re hydrated enough, you prevent your eyes from getting dry and irritated.
Stop rubbing your eyes
In most cases, the hands are exposed to a lot of dirt, dust and bacteria, and all of these can be easily transferred to your eyes each time you touch or rub them. Therefore, avoid putting your hands to your eyes to prevent infection and irritation. If the habit is ingrained, make an effort to get rid of it as soon as possible.
Say no to smoking
Smoking can damage the blood vessels that supply blood and nutrients to your optic nerve and prevent the realisation of healthy eyes. Smoking also increases your chance of developing cataracts and age-related macular degeneration among many other medical problems.
Eat a healthy food
. Eating assorted fruits and vegetables, especially deep yellow and green leafy vegetables, provide vitamins essential for good or healthy eyes. Always Endeavour to eat food that is infused with different foods that are rich in these nutrients.
Observe the 20-20-20 rule
If you want to keep your eyes in great shape, you should adhere to the 20-20-20 rule, which states that: Every 20 minutes, look away from your computer monitor and fix your gaze on an object that’s 20 feet away from you, blink 20 successive times to prevent eye dryness, every 20 minutes, get out of your seat and take 20 steps.
Guide your eyes always
It is important that no matter what you do, the eyes must be protected. For example, if you’re going to swim, you must wear goggles to avoid exposing your eyes to chlorine and as such maintain healthy eyes.
Cultivate habit of regular examination
It is recommended that any adult that is between the ages of 18 and 60 should visit their eye doctor to get a comprehensive eye test at least once a year to find out how healthy their eyes are. The recommendation is necessary because some eye diseases may not have warning signs. Many eye conditions can be controlled or even reversed if they’re detected early.
