How Woman Died In Police Gun Duel With Kidnappers Of Lagos PDP Chairman
In a tragic incident on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, a woman named Bilikisu Kazeem lost her life due to gunshot wounds sustained during a gun battle between police operatives and kidnappers on Saturday. The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the unfortunate incident in Abeokuta.
According to Odutola, the police engagement resulted in the rescue of nine out of ten individuals from the suspected kidnappers, marking a significant intervention in the perilous situation. The initial abduction occurred on Friday, involving travelers on the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, including the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Philip Aivoji.
While the police’s swift response led to the release of the majority of the kidnap victims, unfortunately, Bilikisu Kazeem succumbed to her injuries before reaching the hospital. SP Odutola noted that the deceased’s relatives declined any autopsy examination from the police and promptly collected her remains.
Providing details on the casualties, Odutola mentioned that a white Mazda Bus registered as LSR 288 XE sustained slight damage during the confrontation. Four individuals—Eunice Afolake Osalusi, Erinfolami Samuel, Obafemi Da Altantra, and Adeyinka Mathew—sustained non-life-threatening bullet injuries as they attempted to escape. Fortunately, they are currently recovering and in stable condition in the hospital.
Highlighting the recovered items from the scene, Odutola mentioned, “One AK47 Magazine containing 28 live ammunition believed to belong to the hoodlums, handsets, car key, were handed over to respective owners.” The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations has mobilized Tactical Commanders for joint operations with other security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of the Lagos PDP chairman, Philip Aivoji. The authorities remain committed to addressing the security challenges and safeguarding the well-being of citizens.
