The Action Democratic Party (ADP) is leading in five of the six Local Government Areas in the Plateau North Senatorial re-run elections held on Saturday, according to official results putting the APC to a distant second upon the support of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP which was excluded from the contest.

The Returning Officer for the exercise, Prof. Nestor Chagok, announced that the ADP Candidate, Mr Pam Dachungyang, was leading with 91,184 votes.

The APC Candidate, Mr Chris Giwa, came a distant second with 31,183, while the Labour Party (LP) Candidate,  Mr Gyang Zi, trailed behind with 20,395.

The results showed that ADP won in all the five LGAs, namely Barkin Ladi, Bassa, Jos South, Jos East and Riyom.

A breakdown of the results shows that in Barkin Ladi, ADP polled 19,663, APC got 4,700 and LP 7,989

In Jos South, ADP got 38,605, APC 11,416 and LP 6,638 and in Jos East, ADP got 7,750, APC 2,817, and LP 2,725.

In Riyom, ADP polled I2,130, APC 4,342, LP-1,942, while in Bassa, ADP scored 13,036, APC 7,908 and LP 6,101.

The outstanding result for Jos LGA was still being collated at the time of filing this report.

GWG.ng reports that the result of the election was quite different from what happened in the main election in February, 2023 which was won by the PDP with 155,681 votes with the Labour Party taking second with 79,831 votes and the APC taking third with 78,392.

The PDP was excluded from the rerun following the controversial judgment of the Court of Appeal which wrongly asserted that the PDP lacked capacity to sponsor candidates for elections on the plateau. That assertion was upturned by the Supreme Court which affirmed the validity of the PDP candidates.

GWG.ng gathered that the PDP had moved in to bolster the ADP candidate who in the February 2023 election won only 413 votes in Plateau North.

Meanwhile, the Returning Officer for Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency, Prof. James Damen, has announced that the LP Candidate, Mr Daniel Asama, was leading in the only local government, where the election took place in the constituency.

According to the result as announced by Damen, LP scored 22,963 to lead PRP with 6,074 and APC 4,782.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the rerun election for the 16 polling units in the constituency was rescheduled for Sunday because of the alleged missing ballot papers.

The rescheduled election was still ongoing at the time of filing this report. (NAN)
