Nigerian Police Arrest ‘Ghost’ For Allegedly Defrauding Residents
The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 59-year-old man identified as Muhammad Abubakar, alias Malam Sabo, for allegedly perpetrating fraud by disguising himself as a ghost to deceive members of the public.
In an official statement released on its verified social media platform on Tuesday night, the Nigeria Police Force disclosed the details of the arrest. According to the statement, the suspect, known to be a habitual scam artiste, had been engaging in fraudulent activities by adopting various disguises to swindle unsuspecting victims.
The statement revealed that the modus operandi of the suspect involved concealing his identity and assuming the persona of a ghost, utilizing different voices to communicate with his targets. Often, he altered his voice to mimic that of a woman or a child in order to deceive his victims effectively.
In a recent incident, the suspect reportedly succeeded in duping one Abba Bale of Demsawo out of the sum of three hundred thousand naira (N300,000.00).
