Ize-Iyamu Set To Withdraw From Edo Guber Race As APC Swings Ticket To Okpebholo
Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, one of the major aspirants for the ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the Edo 2024 election is set to withdraw from the race, top sources in his campaign organsiation have said.
Ahead of the plan to withdraw, GWG.ng gathered that Ize-Iyamu who was the party’s candidate in the 2020 governorship election, has summoned a meeting of his coordinators and major supporters from across the state for a crucial meeting for Friday morning.
The meeting which some believe to be a final mobilization would, however, serve as a forum for the shocking decision to announce the withdrawal.
A source disclosed that the decision by Ize-Iyamu to withdraw follows the apparent decision of the party leadership to favour Senator Monday Okpebholo with the ticket.
It was gathered that Ize-Iyamu may have gotten hint of the decision and is said not to have been totally unopposed to Okpebholo and may have decided to pull back given the decision of the top hierarchy of the APC.
GWG.ng had earlier reported that the party establishment had decided on Senator Okpebholo following the twin decision to zone the ticket to Esan Central and the refusal to accept the candidate allegedly being marketed by one of President Bola Tinubu’s main associates in the state.
Ize-Iyamu who is believed to be the APC’s most recognizable aspirants and most potent aspirant was, however, not supported by Senator Adams Oshiomhole who is the immediate past governor of the state and has great influence within the party.
Oshiomhole was generally claimed to have backed another aspirant from Edo South who, however, was said not to have been accepted by the party leadership.
