Edo Guber: How Oshiomhole Survived, Outsmarted High-Level Conspiracy

Senator Adams Oshiomhole’s political fortune was on the upswing in Edo State after surviving a convoluted political conspiracy and positioning his political protegee, Dennis Idahosa as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the forthcoming governorship election.

Idahosa emerged after a game of intrigues that led some of his more potent rivals from Edo South to withdraw after information filtered that the leadership of the party in Abuja had resolved to zone the ticket to Edo Central.

Among those who withdrew were Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Mr Lucky Imasuen among others.

The disclosure that the party hierarchy in Abuja had given the order to zone the ticket to Edo Central was meant to assuage the people of Edo Central who have yet to produce a full term governor of the state.

Senator Oserheinmen Osunbor from Edo Central who emerged in 2007 had his victory cut short by the court victory of Oshiomhole in 2008.

GWG.ng gathered that the plot to zone the ticket to Edo Central was, however, pushed through by a powerful South-South lawmaker in the National Assembly who it was alleged was beginning to see Oshiomhole as a rival.

It was gathered that the lawmaker in conspiracy with some other principal officials of the APC had been able to convince President Bola Tinubu on the desirability of zoning the ticket to Edo Central.

Oshiomhole who was pushing Idahosa, a former commissioner in his cabinet while he was governor was reportedly not brought into the calculations.

It was learnt that by the time Oshiomhole got to know the president was just about boarding the plane on his current trip to Ethiopia.

One source said that it was at that point that the permutation unbeknown to his political foes in the APC changed.

While the initial ‘result’ being announced by the collation officers had Senator Monday Okpebhelo on the lead with six of the eight local governments and Idahosa with two Local Governments, by the time political thugs acting a script intervened, the game changed when the collation reconvened in Governor Hope Uzodimma’s hotel base.

The details of the results have not emerged but Uzodimma who this medium had earlier reported as a long time political collaborator of Oshiomhole had no issues announcing Idahosa as the candidate.

GWG.ng reports that besides surviving the conspiracy against him, Oshiomhole has also had his stock raised in Edo South among the Bini.

They now see him as the man who has helped the region with the prospect of holding the governorship after the term of the incumbent, who many in Benin say is representing Lagos Interest in the state.

Even more, Oshiomhole now has the prospect of reinventing himself as the political leader and godfather of Edo State.
