Popular Female Nigerian Tiktoker Jailed For Immorality ‘Escapes’ From Prison

There is growing concern over reports that popular Tiktoker, Murja Kunya, has escaped from a Kano prison she was recently sent to over alleged immorality.

Daily Trust reports that a Shari’ah Court sitting at Gama PRP area of Kano metropolis had ordered the remand of the controversial TikTok sensation at Kurmawa correctional facility.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Kano State Hisbah Board arrested the celebrity after receiving complaints from her neighbours over alleged immoral behaviour.

Upon arraignment before the Court, she was accused of indecency and attempts to recruit young girls into prostitution.

The judge consequently ordered that Murja Kunya be remanded in prison custody until February 21, 2024.

Speaking of the issue, the spokesperson of the Court, Muzammil Ado Ibrahim Fagge, said they had no idea of the development.

He said, “We also heard that she has been freed from the facility. The Judge ruled that he will decide whether to grant her bail or not on the 20th of February.

“We don’t know what happened. What happened in the Court cannot be changed especially in the case of this girl which was not the first time. She was at an Upper Shari’ah Court at Filin Hockey on the same issues.

“What we know is that Kunya Murja is in prison but I am not surprised she was granted bail.”

But reacting to the allegations, the spokesman for the Kano Correctional Centre, Musbahu Kofar Nassarawa, said that she was released following a court order.

He said, “Correctional facility is binded by rules and it operates like a bank, paper (documents) brings you and the same paper takes you out. If there are omissions, it won’t even be accepted.

“We have the signatures of all Judges in the state. A judge must sign for you to be admitted and likewise when you are to be freed.

“In the case of Murja Kunya, no one escaped from prison. If you climb the fence in an attempt to escape, it’s liable to gunshot and we have several gates manned by security.

“It’s surprising to say she escaped. Court order brought her and the same Court order took Murja Kunya out.”

When contacted, an official of Kano Hisbah command, who asked not to be mentioned said the development will not affect the operations of its officials as they will not rest on their oars in the quest for fighting immorality in the state.
