Nigerian Man Accused Of Beating Wife To Coma In Court

Ekiti-based Samuel Umeojili has been arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrate Court on the allegation of domestic assault against his wife, Okechukwu Umeojili, resulting in severe repercussions for the victim, who reportedly slipped into a coma.

The prosecution, led by Inspector Olasunkanmi Bamikole, outlined the harrowing details of the assault, emphasizing not only the physical harm inflicted upon Mrs. Umeojili but also the disruption of peace within their community.

These charges are in violation of Sections 185 and 181 of the Ekiti State Criminal Law, 2021, underscoring the legal ramifications of such violent behavior in the state.

Despite the absence of legal representation, Samuel Umeojili pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him. Chief Magistrate Mr. Saka Afunso, recognizing the bailable nature of the offenses, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N25,000, with one surety required to provide the same amount.

The case has been adjourned until February 29 to afford the prosecution ample time to review the case file and summon witnesses for the forthcoming hearing. This delay underscores the meticulous legal process underway to ensure justice prevails in this distressing case of domestic violence as alleged against Umeojili.
