Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof Mahmood Yakubu has emerged the top trend on Nigerian X (formerly Twitter) on the first anniversary of the presidential election conducted by his commission with critics laying it as a curse day.

There is, however, concern that some may have been taking their position overboard with some critics of Mahmood Yakubu extending the curse beyond to his kindred.

Even more, the assertions of the activists has been extended to the judiciary with the political activists adding the Justices to the curse they have being laying on Mahmood Yakubu.

However, political opponents on the other divide have countered with the trend Obidiots to mock the political opposition laying curse on Mahmood Yakubu.

GWG.ng reports that the declaration comes exactly one year after the 2023 general election, which saw President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ascend to the presidency. Many netizens took to social media to express their frustrations, blaming the INEC chairman, Manhood Yakubu, for alleged manipulation of the election results.

According to online commentators, Yakubu’s actions during the election are perceived as having contributed to the current economic hardships facing Nigerians. The depreciation of the Naira against the Dollar and the skyrocketing prices of goods and commodities are cited as evidence of the alleged electoral manipulation.

The sentiment on social media reflects widespread dissatisfaction with the perceived outcome of the election, with many Nigerians attributing their economic woes to the leadership that emerged from it.

United Kingdom based Lauretta Onochie, who served as special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari before her appointment as chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, however, countered the Obidients as she savored in the counter-trend, Obidiots.

Another Diasporian critic of the Obidients, Reno Omokri also trended against the curse on Mahmood Yakubu with his mockery of Peter Obi making the waves.

As discussions continue to unfold online, the hashtag #ManhoodYakubu has become a rallying point for those seeking accountability and transparency in the electoral process.

As Nigerians commemorate the anniversary of the 2023 general election, the spotlight remains on INEC and its chairman, with calls for reforms and greater accountability in the country’s electoral system
