Nollywood icon Kola Oyewo has opened up on is personal struggle with prostate enlargement and the profound impact it had on his life, particularly his sexual health.

The journey began in July 2019 when Oyewo started experiencing difficulty urinating, a distressing symptom associated with prostate issues. Aware of the potential complications if left untreated, including bladder stones and kidney problems, he knew immediate action was necessary.

For Oyewo, like many men his age, prostate enlargement posed a significant health concern. Following a series of tests and scans, the diagnosis confirmed his worst fears: his prostate was indeed enlarged.

Faced with the reality of a life-threatening condition, Oyewo was left with a difficult decision: undergo surgery or risk further deterioration of his health. Despite the daunting prospect, he chose surgery as the best course of action.

The surgical journey was not without its challenges. Oyewo bravely navigated through the emotional and physical toll of the procedure, which even involved the removal of his scrotum. This decision, while difficult, was a testament to his unwavering commitment to preserving his life, even at the cost of his sexual function.

However, the challenges did not end with the surgery. Oyewo encountered further complications during his recovery, including a harrowing moment when his life hung in the balance due to complications from an X-ray procedure. Yet, through it all, he remained resilient, drawing strength from his loved ones and his unwavering determination to overcome adversity.

Oyewo’s journey serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of prioritizing health and well-being, even in the face of daunting obstacles. His courage in sharing his story sheds light on the often-taboo topic of men’s sexual health and underscores the need for greater awareness and support for those grappling with similar challenges.

He explicitly instructed the interviewer, Kunle Afod, not to disclose his condition to the public as if he required assistance. He emphasized that he has been self-sufficient and is now being cared for by his children. This was his response to the common health challenges faced by Nigerian actors, which often prompt public appeals for financial support. He candidly asserted that he does not require anyone’s assistance during the interview.
