Edo: Heart Of Forgiveness And Reconciliation In PDP

If there is no sin, there wouldn’t be a reason for forgiveness. No two human beings are the same or have the same temperament. We are bound to, at one point or the other, hurt one another, and our reactions may not be that of docility.

When we have an assemblage of humans in one forum, be it political, religious, social, or official, there must be dissenting voices.

PDP has had a fair share of dissenting voices in her family since her formation in 1998. It remains standing all these years while many other Parties have been subsumed or unimpactful on our body politics. It is, therefore, not unimaginable that such a large Party would have intra Party misunderstandings. While in power, the dissension was well managed. However, out of power, the internal problems in PDP seem intractable.

In looking for a way forward, it is best to put the welfare of Nigerians above all considerations. In doing this, it would be best to compare life under PDP leadership at the centre, with life thereafter. There is no gainsaying the fact that Nigerians know the huge difference. Present and former members of PDP know the truth, that life was better, times over under PDP.

With this in mind, PDP has the onerous task of finding lasting peace within her ranks, coming together and doing that, which she knows best how to do – delivery of good leadership. We must search our souls, especially this auspicious period of fasting among Christians and Moslems who are about to start theirs, see our differences, understand our differences, and manage them. This is a time of purification. May our hearts be amenable to forgiveness, as we seek forgiveness of our sins from God.

There is a need for individual soul-searching so that we can free our hearts for genuine forgiveness that will usher in unfettered reconciliation. Nobody is exempted – from our founding fathers down to other members. We must have, at one time or the other, hurt one another no matter how innocuous. Evidence of this can be found in the fact that other major Parties are made up of many erstwhile members of PDP. Many left because they were aggrieved.

In reconciling among ourselves, we must bear it in mind that we all can not occupy the same position at the same time. We must accept that some are more adept at certain functions and allow them to function, rather than pulling them down and in the process, pulling down our Party. We must seek out like minds and bring the willing back.

Together, we can. Divided, we can not. I pray that all that are aggrieved, either still in the Party or in other Parties, would find space in their hearts to forgive, return to the Party, so that we can rebuild our Party; our Home. No place is ever better than one’s home.
