Dollar Video Saga: Court Gives New Order On Investigation Of Ganduje

The Federal High Court sitting in Kano had ruled that the Kano Public Compliant and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) lacks the power to investigate the immediate past Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, over his involvement in the famed dollar video saga.

Justice Abdullahi Liman, while delivering his judgment on Tuesday, stated that the alleged offence of the dollar video bribery saga brought against Ganduje was a federal one that could be prosecuted by the Attorney General of the Federation and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

“The offence is a federal offence and ought to have been reported before the Attoney General of the Federation and Economic Finance Crimes Commission

“The scope of the anti-corruption is limited to specific power to investigate Federal offences,” Justice Liman said.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after the judgment, the counsel for the anti-corruption commission, Usman Umar Fari, said they would appeal the ruling at the Court of Appeal.

Recall that Ganduje, through his counsel, Matthew Burkaa (SAN), had filed a fundamental rights suit in  July 2023 to restrain PCACC from arresting, investigating and inviting him the alleged dollar video.

The respondents in the case were Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission, Nigeria Police, Inspector-General of Police, Commissioner of Police, Kano State, State Security Services, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

Others are Attorney General of the Federation and the Attorney General of Kano State.

GWG.ng reports that the case arose out of a video that emerged that saw somebody depicted as Ganduje stuffing dollars into his clothes during a meeting with a contractor.
