Hotel Worker Electrocuted Near Asaba Airport

Tragedy struck at Immaculate Hotel, located at Vanguard Junction, Okpanam, directly across from the airport, Delta State on Thursday when a staff of the hotel was electrocuted while repairing the establishment’s billboard.

The victim, simply known as Calabar, a dedicated staff member of the hotel, met his untimely demise while undertaking repairs on the establishment’s billboard.

As the day unfolded, Calabar, unaware of the impending danger, ascended a ladder to address the damage on the billboard. Unfortunately, fate took a cruel turn when the ladder inadvertently made contact with a 33KVA high-tension pole, leading to a fatal electrocution. Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing scene, detailing the sudden surge of electricity that claimed Calabar’s life.

An anonymous source within the vicinity shared insights into the grim incident, shedding light on Calabar’s longstanding tenure at Immaculate Hotel. “He is from Calabar and a worker at Immaculate Hotel. We know him as a staff in the hotel all these years until the unfortunate incident occurred Thursday afternoon,” the source revealed, underscoring the profound loss experienced by the community.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, the lifeless body of the hotel employee was promptly conveyed to the mortuary, marking the beginning of a period of mourning for his loved ones and colleagues. Sympathizers, deeply affected by the sudden turn of events, converged at the scene, grappling with the shock and disbelief that enveloped the air.

Confirming the distressing occurrence, Bright Edafe, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, acknowledged the gravity of the situation. “The owner of the hotel is still giving statements. Let me do further findings, you will get full details later,” Edafe stated, emphasizing the ongoing investigation spearheaded by the Okpanam Police Station.
