Akpabio, Fubara Throw Political Jibes At Wigwe’s Funeral (Video)
The solemn atmosphere of Herbert Wigwe’s funeral was briefly shattered as political tensions surfaced between Rivers State Governor, Fubara, and Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, prompting a war of words between the two prominent figures.
During his address, Governor Fubara raised questions about the nature of political struggles, condemning the divisive and often violent nature of political rivalries. “What is all this struggle about? You want to kill, you want to bury. What is it all about?” he questioned, expressing his disdain for the escalating political turmoil.
In response, Senate President Akpabio seized the opportunity to share a personal anecdote, shedding light on his own experiences with political power dynamics. Recounting a past encounter when he aspired to become deputy governor in 2006, Akpabio revealed a conversation where he was discouraged by the incumbent deputy governor, who emphasized the lack of financial benefits in the position. He recounted how his ambition was met with skepticism and resistance, highlighting the disillusionment with the political landscape.
Taking a direct jab at Governor Fubara’s remarks, Akpabio challenged the notion of struggling in a system that offers little reward, urging Governor Fubara to reconsider the value of political ambition in the face of adversity.
“Your Excellency, Governor Fubara, if there is nothing in the struggle, don’t struggle “- Akpabio concluded.
