Prominent Members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State have issued a joint plea for unity amidst escalating tensions sparked by the impeachment notice served on Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu.

The announcement, made during a plenary session by Majority Leader Charity Aiguobarueghian, has added a new layer of complexity to the state’s political landscape.

Expressing concern over the implications of the impeachment notice on party cohesion, PDP stakeholders have come together to address the pressing need for reconciliation. They highlight the recent gains made in reconciling differences arising from the governorship primary exercise, stressing the importance of maintaining unity as the state approaches the upcoming gubernatorial election.

In a collective statement, PDP stakeholders appealled to the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, and fellow PDP members to urgently withdraw the impeachment notice for the sake of peace, unity, and progress within the party. Additionally, they called upon Governor Godwin Obaseki to leverage his influence to intervene and halt the impeachment proceedings against Deputy Governor Shaibu.

Emphasizing the need for fairness and justice in resolving the fallout from the recent primaries, stakeholders assert that unity within the party is paramount for success in the upcoming election. They underscored the importance of desisting from further internal conflicts and rallying behind a common agenda to secure victory at the polls.

As tensions continue to simmer within the PDP ranks, the withdrawal of the impeachment notice is viewed as a crucial step towards healing divisions and fostering grassroots support. The stakeholders reaffirm their commitment to the party’s ideals and emphasize that only through unity and solidarity can they overcome the challenges ahead and emerge victorious in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.
