Asake Grammy nomination

Nigerian international music star, Ahmed Ololade, aka Asake has apparently snubbed an ultimatum to pull down a music video that saw him allegedly offending the sensibilities of Christians by wearing a priestly garment and spraying money in a church.

GWG.ng reports that the music video has stirred up a storm on social media, with viewers expressing outrage over what they perceive as disrespectful behavior in a sacred setting by Asake

The music video in question features Nigerian musician and former Grammy Award nominee, Asake, singing in a Catholic Church while adorned in a priestly attire. In the footage, Asake is depicted singing amidst the congregation, spraying money, while individuals appear to be falling as if under the influence of the Holy Spirit.

The criticism was spearheaded by a man identified as Paul Ezike, who voiced his disapproval of Asake’s actions in the video. Ezike questioned the appropriateness of Asake’s portrayal of a priest in the music video, particularly in light of his Muslim faith. He posed a rhetorical question, asking whether Asake would dare to replicate such behavior as he did in the video in a mosque.

GWG.ng reports that the controversy surrounding Asake’s video echoes similar incidents in the past, including one involving renowned Nigerian artiste Davido, who faced backlash from the Muslim community for sitting on a mosque while promoting the video of one of his signees.

Dr Paul Ezike, therefore, gave Asake 24 hours to tender an apology to the Christian community. However, Asake, 29 has apparently not done that and forged ahead with his vocations despite the sensitivies touched by his latest music video.
