Why I Was Silently Banned By Nollywood Marketers – Rita Dominic Reveals
Nollywood icon Rita Dominic has opened up about her experience with a group of influential marketers who wielded power in the industry, revealing how they effectively blacklisted her.
Speaking in an interview aired on Joy997fm’s official Instagram page, Rita recounted how these marketers, often seen as the gods of Nollywood, imposed a ban on her involvement in the movie business.
She explained, “Before I ventured into producing and establishing our company, I faced a silent ban. The marketers, being the influential figures they were, imposed this ban because I dared to approach filmmaking differently.”
Rita’s assertion sheds light on the dominance of marketers in Nollywood during that era and the challenges faced by artists who sought to challenge the status quo.
The ban stemmed from Rita’s desire to innovate and prioritize professionalism by insisting on communication through talent management channels. This approach clashed with the traditional practices prevalent in the industry at the time.
Her revelation shows the struggles faced by actors and filmmakers who dared to challenge the established norms and seek greater transparency and fairness in the industry.
Despite the setback, Rita Dominic’s resilience and determination eventually led her to establish her production company, where she could exercise greater creative control and pursue projects aligned with her vision.
Her journey serves as a testament to the resilience of artists in Nollywood, highlighting the importance of perseverance and adaptability in navigating the complexities of the entertainment industry.
