Oshiomhole’s Man Running To Court As APC Alters Edo Ticket
Rep Dennis Idahosa was set to forsake his Monday morning breakfast in his bid to withdraw his court actions after the All Progressives Congress, APC finally adopted him as running mate to its governorship candidate in Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
The move followed the orchestrated efforts by Senator Adams Oshiomhole to regain relevance in the Edo political firmament after Idahosa, his choice for the governorship ticket lost his bid.
GWG.ng reports that Okpebholo had earlier adopted Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, a stalwart of the Legacy Group in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP as his running mate. The choice of Ogbeide-Ihama had also been endorsed by the mainstream of APC leaders in Edo State who saw it as an Almighty Formula that would have put the calculations of the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led PDP into insignificance.
Idahosa who went into the Edo primary election as the undisguised favourite of the immediate past governor of the state, Oshiomhole, had been declared winner of the first primary conducted by Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State. However, that declaration which led to splinters in the party forced the national leadership to declare the primary inconclusive with Governor Bassey Otu being called upon to conduct a fresh exercise which returned Okpebholo as winner.
Idahosa had spurned the peace efforts of Okpebholo and gone ahead to file a court action to stop the Edo Central senator as the APC candidate.
His legal action went in parallel with the unpretentious supplications of the Oshiomhole camp in the presidency for it to produce the running mate in order for the former national chairman not to be reduced to political oblivion in a state he had so much invested political capital in favour of President Bola Tinubu.
The plea it was gathered prompted the presidency and the APC national leadership to “advice” Okpebholo to pick Idahosa as his running mate.
GWG.ng had earlier exclusively reported that Okpebholo upon the pressures had set a meeting to confer on party stakeholders on the presidential ‘advice.’
A picture published by The Conclave announcing the new choice of Idahosa showed a smiling Oshiomhole hugging Okpebholo in their first public rapport since the primary election stand-off.
