Raheem Sterling Apologises After Nigerian Duo Cover Mistakes In Chelsea FA Cup Victory
Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling has taken to social media to make an apology to the Blues fans following his missed penalty in their FA Cup triumph over Leicester City on Sunday.
Despite Chelsea securing a 4-2 victory and advancing to the FA Cup semi-finals, Sterling’s disappointing performance did not escape criticism.
GWG.ng reports that the Sterling’s poor performance was covered up by two late strikes by Nigerian-born players, Carney Chukwuemeka and Noni Madueke who struck deep into extra time to send the opposition away.
During the match, Sterling had the opportunity to extend Chelsea’s lead after requesting to take a penalty kick. However, his weak effort was saved by Leicester City goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk. The former Manchester City and Liverpool star also missed additional chances during the game, prompting audible jeers from the home supporters.
In response to the backlash, Sterling addressed an apology to Chelsea fans on Instagram, acknowledging his error and vowing to bounce back stronger to support the team’s success. “Wembley Bound. To all the Chelsea fans, apologies for the penalty miss,” wrote Sterling. “I’ll be back 10 times stronger to help the team win and continue to keep fighting for the badge every single day. Let’s go Blues.”
