New Troubling Questions After “Rescue” Of Kuriga School Children

The rescue of 137 students and staff from a school in Kuriga Kaduna State by the Nigerian army has sparked widespread relief, but it has also triggered a flurry of questions and worries.

Gunmen had stormed the school in Kuriga, Kaduna, on March 7, allegedly taking 287 students and staff. Following weeks of tension, a joint operation between the military and local authorities led to the rescue of 137 hostages in the early hours of Sunday. The liberated individuals, including 76 females and 61 males, were found in a forest in the neighboring state of Zamfara and are currently undergoing medical checks before reuniting with their families.

However, alongside the celebrations over the successful rescue, troubling questions linger. One pressing query concerns the fate of the remaining hostages. With conflicting reports on the number of abducted individuals and varying accounts from officials, uncertainty shrouds the status of those not included in the rescue operation.

Furthermore, concerns have been raised regarding the lack of arrests of the perpetrators following the rescue mission. Oseni Rufai, a well-known TV presenter, echoed the sentiments of many Nigerians when he questioned the absence of arrests in the aftermath of such operations. Rufai’s social media post garnered widespread attention, with numerous citizens expressing frustration and skepticism about the effectiveness of rescue efforts that do not lead to the capture of the criminals behind the kidnappings.

“The needed step after the rescue should be arrest of the terrorist so they don’t kidnap again. Honest Question!” Rufai’s post read.

The prevailing sentiment among commentators suggests a deep-seated suspicion of possible collusion or complicity within certain sectors of the government. Speculations abound regarding the motives behind the kidnappings and the perceived failure to hold the perpetrators accountable. Some argue that there may be vested interests benefiting from the perpetuation of such criminal acts, fueling speculation about underground networks and corruption within the system.

In the wake of these concerns, demands for transparency and accountability have intensified. People seek clarity regarding the specifics of the rescue operation, the identities of the perpetrators, and the reasons for the absence of arrests. As the nation grapples with the aftermath of yet another abduction crisis, the quest for answers and justice remains paramount.

See some reactions below:

@RealOlaudah: Because under-the-table money is exchanged, which the government provides and looks the other way. We’re not yet ready to combat terrorism in Nigeria.

@Fredolution_Now: Have you ever arrested a business partner after a successful transaction?

@RealQueenBee__: Who would arrest who? When the insurgency and kidnapping at large scale has become a Multi Billion Dollar 💵💰 business in the North.

The Northern Elite, SHEIKH GUMI are complicit. The society is at the receiving end of the stick and the govt looks helpless.

@aseuyi: I have also ask myself this question, rescued from who, how and where?

It could be they executed the kidnapper or terrorist.

Who can we ask????
