Actress Habibat Jinad Reveals How She Was Pushed Into Skin Bleaching

Actress Habibat Jinad bravely shares her journey of skin bleaching, revealing the emotional toll of societal pressure, particularly from senior colleague Mide Martins.

In an interview on Biola Bayo’s talk show, Talk To B, Habibat recounted a distressing incident on the set of a movie directed by Mide’s husband, Afeez Owo.

During the incident, Habibat alleges she faced unfair punishment for a colleague’s mistake, with Mide reportedly making derogatory remarks about her skin color, comparing it to that of a monkey.

These hurtful comments deeply impacted Habibat Jinad, sparking thoughts of skin bleaching as a means to conform to societal beauty standards.

Reflecting on the incident, Habibat shared, “Mrs. Mide Martins was there, my boss was there and some other people and Mide Martins compared it to a monkey’s skin. And it got to me. She even complained about my skin, saying I was too dark and this made me contemplate bleaching my skin to please her and others.”

The revelation by Habibat Jinad sheds light on the psychological effects of colorism and the lengths individuals may go to seek acceptance in the entertainment industry and how it particularly pushed her into skin bleaching.
