In an interview on Channels TV, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, a spokesperson for the police, addressed questions regarding the status of cross-dressing in Nigeria and why the police is yet to arrest the most prominent exemplar of that culture, Bobrisky.

He clarified that cross-dressing itself is not a criminal offense in Nigeria, but rather being queer is considered unlawful. Adejobi emphasized that without concrete evidence linking cross-dressers to the LGBTQ community, it is challenging to pursue legal action against them.

Highlighting the legal intricacies of the matter, Adejobi stressed that without substantial evidence, prosecution in court would likely be unsuccessful. This stance underlines the nuanced approach required when dealing with issues of personal expression and identity.

GWG.ng reports that the discussion on cross-dressing in Nigeria resurfaced in 2023 when James Brown openly disclosed his identity as a cross-dresser. Revealing insights into his earnings, Brown disclosed that he commands significant fees for social media posts, citing his large following on platforms like Instagram and Facebook.

Similarly, in March 2024, Bobrisky, a prominent figure in the cross-dressing community, faced criticism for his lifestyle choices with many calling for his arrest. Responding via Instagram, Bobrisky defended his right to self-expression, emphasizing the importance of personal choice and urging detractors to respect individual freedoms.
