‘They Want To Electrocute Our Lives And Businesses’ Shehu Sani, Nigerians Lament Electricity Tariff Hike

An outrage has spiraled up on social media following the Federal Government’s announcement of an increase in electricity tariffs by 300% in Nigeria, on Wednesday.

GWG.ng earlier reported that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), on behalf of the Federal Government, approved a 300 per cent increase in electricity tariffs for Band A consumers in the country.

NERC’s Vice Chairman, Musiliu Oseni, revealed this information in Abuja on Wednesday.

Reacting to this development, former Senator Shehu Sani fumed in a post on X, “Increasing electricity tariffs by 300% will finally electrocute human lives and businesses in the country.”

Reacting to Sani’s post, another X user, Citizen for Ethical Governan… said, “This government is indeed anti-people. How can you subsidize pilgrimage while electricity which is the engine of production is left to hit the roof.”

GWG.ng reports that similar sentiments about the electricity tariff increase in Nigeria was prevailing on X:

@AGINAS reacted, “People are already losing jobs due to power outages and they still talking about increasing electricity tariffs. Ahhh God! People will soon leave this country and leave politicians in their country alone.”
