The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has come under fire for remarks made during a media briefing on the recent hike in electricity tariffs.

Adelabu raised eyebrows when he suggested that inadequate payment for electricity encourages wasteful consumption habits among Nigerians. He pointed to instances where individuals leave appliances like air conditioners and freezers running for extended periods without regard for energy conservation.

Furthermore, the minister drew comparisons to practices abroad, insinuating that citizens of other countries exhibit more prudent electricity usage behaviors.
