Manchester United Vs Liverpool Preview: The Biggest Rivalry In English Football
By Eze Dike
Match week 32 of the 2023-24 Premier League campaign will feel a lot incomplete without perhaps the biggest fixture in the history of English football, Manchester United versus Liverpool at Old Trafford.
Memorable battles over the years, cup finals, title deciders and epic clashes, the two Premier League heavyweights lock horns again for the third time this season.
The two most successful clubs in the land meet in rather different circumstances from their past encounters. Liverpool who will be the visitors have it all to lose, as they currently lead an intense three-way title race. Winning will see them preserve their two-point gap at the top but any result different from that will keep them behind current league leaders Arsenal entering into the season run-in.
In what is Jurgen Klopp’s final season in charge of the Reds they will be looking to give the German tactician a befitting send off, no better way to do that than to win a second ever Premier League title.
As for United, turbulent times yet again as they have not seemed to recover from the departure of their greatest ever manager Sir Alex Ferguson for over 10 ten years. Their season has been blighted by below par performances and the only positive to take was their dramatic 4-3 win over their opponents tomorrow, Liverpool in the FA Cup that booked them a ticket to Wembley to play the semi finals against Championship side Coventry City.
Erik Ten Hag’s men have blown away leads in their last two league matches most recently when they lost incredibly 4-3 to Chelsea after being ahead up until the 97th minute of the match.
However, their first encounter of the season ended in a 0-0 stalemate, as United remain the only club to prevent Liverpool from scoring at Anfield this season. But a huge advantage for the visitors is their talisman Mohamed Salah who pretty much loves playing at Old Trafford. He scored a hat-trick there in 2022 and also got a goal in their FA Cup clash with the Red Devils. He has also scored in 5 consecutive trips to the Theatre of Dreams, and tomorrow he could well put Liverpool one step ahead in their pursuit for League glory.
