Anxiety As CBN Sacks 8 Directors, 32 Others
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has sacked eight directors and 32 other staff mostly from the Development Finance Department (DFD), in furtherance of its ongoing restructuring.
According to Daily Trust, deputy directors and assistant directors were mostly affected with 22 from the DFD and the remaining 18 from the Medicals and Procurement Services Department.
GWG.ng reports that amongst those affected were eight directors, 10 deputy directors, five assistant directors, two principal managers, and two senior managers.
With the latest development, the number of staff affected by the rationalisation in the apex bank has now reached 67, in what appears to be a series by the Olayemi Cardoso-led Board of Governors to cut down staff.
Recall that not less than 27 members of staff, most of them directors at the Central Bank of Nigeria, were affected by the first batch of dismissals.
Meanwhile besides the news of the 40 senior staff of the CBN sacked, GWG.ng had reported a Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos has remanded the erstwhile governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mr Godwin Emefiele in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The remand order came on Monday, April 8, 2024 after Emefiele was arraigned alongside his co-defendant, one Henry Isioma Omole.
GWG.ng reports that they were arraigned on 26 counts before Justice Rahman Oshodi.
The charge, marked ID/23787c/2024, dated April 3, 2024, was filed by Mr Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN).
