Christians everywhere must put focus on the unfading and unfailing hope that comes from God and not on the ephemeral orations of men on the political podium or even on the pulpit, Elder Chile Okoroma (SAN) has said.

Delivering the Sunday Sermon at the Hospital Chapel, National Hospital, Abuja, Bro Okoroma charged that Christians must put hope in God even in the face of circumstances that challenge their faith.

GWG.ng reports that Okoroma, spoke on the topic “Hope Comes From God”.

Okoroma, who drew parallels on how men had in the past looked unto men as their source of hope noted how a man walked from Lagos to Abuja when a new government came to power in Nigeria more than eight years ago. Noting that the hope of that man and many others who sought change was dashed, he said that the hope of that man has been transformed into a Renewed Hope which remarkably,  has borne increased prices and raised the cost of living.

In the face of it all, Pastor Okoroma, however, said that the hope of the Christian is that no matter the cost of things that the desire and hope of the believer is to be able to afford his or her basic desires.

“While we pray for inflation to come down, but our prayer should be more steadfast that God should provide for us continuously to buy whatever the situation.”

Reading from his main text, Romans 15:13, Okoroma said that “hope in man disappoints but the hope in God does not disappoint,” affirming that hope in God is eternal unlike the ephemeral hope in men.

The preacher observed that God is the source of the hope that lives, adding “since God is the source of hope, to have this hope, a person must be begotten of God. “

He further affirmed that if one is not born-again, it would be difficult to draw from this hope.

“Have you been begotten into this lively hope? This is the question everyone of us must answer for himself. This hope comes from God,” the retired government bureaucrat and learned silk asked.

Drawing severally from various bible passages, he cited the case of Simeon who waited against hope to see the face of the beloved Jesus at His birth.

Pastor Okoroma in that wise counselled Christians not to give up their hope in God in the face of difficult challenges, saying that they must have need of patience and not turn against God.

“You cannot threaten God, God has been in existence even before you were born and even after you die, God will continue to exist. Job said that even if his body should decay that he will not remove his hope from God,” Okoroma, SAN said.

Drawing from the true life story of the reformation exponent, Martin Luther, Okoroma quietly encouraged spouses to be a source of hope to one another.

He told the story of how in the midst of serious depression facing Martin Luther and how he almost lost hope, how the wife, Catherine intervened. According to him, Catherine Martin Luther one day wore mourning black which made the husband to ask who died? Responding, the wife said that God had died, an assertion Okoroma said drew Martin Luther from his depression to continue his advocacy for the reformation.

The preacher lamented that the present generation does not encourage patience as many are insistent on instant things. He urged that whatever it is that anyone is going through that Christians should add to their patience and allow God work out His perfect desire. He cited the example of Saul who rushed to offer sacrifice before going to war.

As an aside, the learned silk said that as profane as Saul was that he knew he needed to offer sacrifice but many Christians wake up without offering daily sacrifice, and rush to the wars of life.

Continuing on his sermon, Barrister Okoroma cited the example of Demas who lost hope on account of the lures of the world system and deviated into the flashy city of Thessalonica which he compared to today’s Las Vegas.

“Demas was tired of waiting. Please don’t get tired of waiting. There are people that we used to know who were sound Christians but (when) they meet you these days and say I didn’t know you still have time of this thing,” Okoroma said.

Quoting from Psalm 42:5, Bro Okoroma urged that Christians must repeatedly charge themselves, encourage themselves in the word of God and separate themselves from talks which kill hope.

As he concluded, the Senior Advocate regretted the inclination of some Christians in putting hope in what their pastors and bishops say rather than on the living word of God.

GWG.ng reports that the service was interspersed with worship, choir ministration and a thanksgiving by Mr and Mrs Titus Ayuba.
