EFCC To Arraign Billionaire Socialite, Cubana Chief Priest For Naira Spraying

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken legal action against Instagram celebrity Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, for alleged offenses related to the spraying and tampering of the Nigerian currency at social events, in violation of the Central Bank Act of 2007.

Cubana Chief Priest is set to appear before Justice Kehinde Ogundare of the Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday, April 17th, 2024, to face a three-count charge brought against him by the EFCC.

The charge, filed on April 4th, lists allegations of tampering with funds issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria during social gatherings. The EFCC’s prosecutor, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), along with seven other lawyers representing the Commission, will argue the case.

In the first count, Cubana Chief Priest is accused of tampering with N500 notes during a social event at Eko Hotel on February 13th, 2024, by spraying them for two hours, contravening Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.

The second count relates to a similar incident in 2020 in Lagos, where he allegedly engaged in the same act of tampering with N500 notes during a social gathering.

In the third count, Cubana Chief Priest is charged with a similar offense that occurred in January 2024 in Lagos, again involving the spraying of N500 notes during a social event.

GWG.ng reports that this legal action comes in the wake of the EFCC’s recent arraignment of controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, on similar charges. Bobrisky was subsequently sentenced to a six-month jail term for his involvement in currency-related offenses.

As Cubana Chief Priest prepares to face the court, the outcome of the case will be closely watched, reflecting the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to uphold currency regulations and combat financial crimes in Nigeria.
