Orthodox Bishop Stabbed During Church Service (Video)

In an incident captured on camera, a prominent Orthodox Bishop was brutally stabbed while delivering a sermon at Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley, Sydney’s western region, on Monday, April 15, just after 7 p.m.

The disturbing attack unfolded as mass was in progress and Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel stood at the altar. A knifeman approached him and began stabbing him repeatedly in the neck and shoulder, causing panic and chaos among the congregation.

Witnesses watched in horror via live stream as church members screamed and rushed to the altar to restrain the assailant. In the ensuing struggle, some members were also attacked.

Following the assault, the bishop was seen being stretchered into an ambulance for medical treatment.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, coming less than 48 hours after another stabbing incident at Westfield Bondi Junction on Saturday afternoon, April 13.

Authorities are investigating the motive behind the attack, and the community is left grappling with the aftermath of this senseless act of violence within the sanctuary of a place of worship.
