Umahi Accuses Peter Obi Of Inciting Ignorant Southeast Against Tinubu Govt (Video)

The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has made a bold accusation against former presidential candidate Peter Obi, claiming he is inciting the people of the southeast against the government over his opposition to the Coastal Highway project

Umahi alleged that Obi is stirring up trouble and abandoning those who are not well-informed, particularly in the southeast region.

Umahi made these comments on Wednesday during an event to compensate property owners affected by the Lagos-Calabar coastal road project.

The Federal Ministry of Works organized the event following the demolition of part of Landmark Beach Resort, valued at $200 million, which has been embroiled in controversy.

The demolition is part of the 700-kilometer coastal highway project, estimated to cost the federal government N15 trillion. However, the project has faced criticism, with many expressing concerns about its impact on businesses and residents.

Paul Onwuanibe, the Group CEO of Landmark, expressed his dismay at the demolition, stating that about 70% of the beach was destroyed, leaving many without jobs and affecting numerous Nigerian families.

Peter Obi, on the other hand, has slammed the Tinubu administration for proceeding with the project despite public outcry as a misplaced priority given the abundance of abandoned federal road projects including the East-West Road. He emphasized that the project is not a priority, especially given the current state of unemployment in the country. Obi urged the government to discontinue the project, citing more pressing concerns such as nationwide security, poverty eradication, healthcare, and education.

In a post on his official X handle, Obi described the demolition of businesses and residences as “insensitive” and “heart-wrenching,” highlighting the devastating impact on livelihoods, investments, and jobs.
