MC Calculus, Winner Of Guinness World Record With 150-Hour Math Lesson, Reveals Motivation

Embarking on a new Guinness World Record, Mr. Uduak Nanga, also known as Mc Calculus, completed a 150-hour non-stop mathematics lesson.

His aim? To showcase that math is easy and enjoyable, especially for youth. Hailing from Ikono Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Nanga concluded the challenge at Kings Kid Christian International High School in Uyo. In a conversation with newsmen, he expressed his goal of reigniting enthusiasm for math among young people.

Nanga, an Electrical/Electronic Engineering graduate of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, previously collaborated with international organizations like UNESCO to foster interest in mathematics among students. He credits his passion for math to his mother, Mrs. Rose Edet Nanga, who instilled a daily routine of reviewing his math notes since his primary education days.

Despite facing technical challenges that caused him to lose the first 10 hours of the record attempt, Nanga remained undeterred, emphasizing that math serves as a tool to solve life’s complexities.

“To me, it is a dream come true. Mathematics is passion to me and when I see people around the world dreading mathematics, sometimes feel bad and would ask myself how can I show to the world that mathematics is fun? So I thought of a platform to do that globally.

“That was why I went into the Guinness World Record attempt, so what I did is beyond the record. Just the platform that I needed to show the whole world that they should have passion for mathematics.

“Doing so would enable the young ones, students and everyone, to understand that mathematics is good for everyday life. Because beyond using it in academics, mathematics can be used in time management, planning and solving complex problems in life.

“When we talk about mathematics, anything in life that you have a solution to is mathematics because in mathematics you must have solution no matter how complex it is.

“So in everyday life, you need perseverance, a follow-up, step by step. In the course of doing this marathon, I saw a lot of people having a rethink about mathematics.

Teaching mathematics at a private secondary school in Akwa Ibom State, Nanga said he is determined to inspire students not only within his school but across the entire state and Nigeria.

 He envisions achieving this through initiatives aimed at promoting mathematics coaching. Nanga revealed his intention to launch a program named Ultimate Brain Search, designed to attract students from primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions.

This program will encompass various activities, including quiz competitions, debates, and symposiums centered around mathematics.
