Pin Codes

With the rise of online banking and digital transactions, the threat of cyber-attacks has become a pressing concern with one of the most vulnerable points of entry for cybercriminals being the PIN codes used in systems.

Despite its seemingly secure nature, a weak PIN can be easily exploited, leaving your finances and personal information at risk.

According to data analyst Nick Berry, who analysed a database of disclosed PIN codes, some combinations are so weak they might as well not exist at all. Initially published on Onet Woman, Berry’s findings reveal the truth about the most vulnerable PIN codes and how easily they can be cracked.

By understanding the risks and taking simple steps to secure our PINs, we can protect our hard-earned savings and avoid serious financial problems.

4 key things to note about PIN CODE security

Change your PIN if it’s weak

If you have a PIN consisting of four of the same numbers (e.g. 3333, 5555, 6666), change it immediately as it’s a weak security risk.

Avoid using personal information

Don’t use your date of birth or any other personal information as your PIN, as it’s not secret and can be easily discovered by thieves.

Choose random numbers

Select a combination of completely random numbers that have no connection with each other. The harder it is to remember, the better.
