Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has publicly acknowledged his error in endorsing Sim Fubara as his successor for the governorship of Rivers State. Speaking at a gathering in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State, Wike apologized to the people of the state for his “mistake” and assured them that corrective measures would be taken.

Wike, known for his blunt remarks, candidly admitted his fallibility as a human being, expressing remorse for any errors in his judgment. “In life, when you make a mistake, you admit it. There’s nothing you can do about it. I have made a mistake, I admit it, and I ask for forgiveness from God and from all of you. However, I will rectify it at the appropriate time. I am only human; I am prone to mistakes. My judgment can falter, and for that, forgive me for any errors. That’s life, so nobody should condemn themselves,” he said.

Wike’s statement comes in the wake of recent remarks attributed to Governor Fubara, expressing gratitude to Wike for his support but asserting that he would not idolize him. Responding directly to Fubara’s comments, Wike clarified that he had never demanded worship from anyone, as he recognizes that he is not divine.

The Minister emphasized the importance of gratitude in politics, urging politicians to appreciate those who have supported them in their journey to office. He stressed that individuals are instruments of divine intervention and that recipients of assistance should express gratitude both to those who have helped them and to the divine force behind such assistance.

“I hold in high regard those who acknowledge the assistance they’ve received and express gratitude for it. God does not descend; rather, He works through people to aid others. Therefore, when you receive help, it’s important to show appreciation. I have never instructed anyone to worship me because no one can be worshipped. As politicians, we acknowledge those who have supported us,” Wike affirmed, underscoring the essence of gratitude in political interactions.
