The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested Rachel Geoffrey, a 23-year-old resident of Federal Housing Estate in Girei, for allegedly burning the hands of her stepchildren.

The victims, seven-year-old Genesis Geoffrey and three-year-old Idadai Geoffrey have their hands bandaged due to the injuries.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, Rachel deliberately inflicted severe physical harm on her stepchildren.

The statement, released on Saturday, detailed that the incident occurred on Tuesday, May 14. It described the ongoing cruelty and human rights violations the children suffered at the hands of their stepmother.

The injuries were reportedly a result of Rachel’s anger over a plate of rice she had prepared and set aside for her husband.

“The kids, because of hunger, ate their father’s food and that angered her. She then tied their hands with a handkerchief and set fire to them, resulting in the severe injuries they sustained,” Nguroje explained.
