Police Confirm Kidnap Of Paramount Ruler In Akwa Ibom

Gunmen kidnapped HRM Ogwong Okon Abang, the Paramount Ruler of Mbo Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom state. Ogwong Abang was kidnapped from his palace in Ebughu on Saturday, May 18, 2024.

The abductors have yet to contact the monarch’s family for a potential ransom. However, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has confirmed the incident.

ASP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer, stated that the Commissioner of Police, Ayilara Waheed Adedamola, along with other Service Commanders and the Commissioner for Internal Security, have traveled to Mbo local council to assess the situation.

She said, “I can confirm that CP and other Service Commanders & Commissioner for Internal Security were there and addressed press corp.”

GWG.ng reports that the news that Ogwong Okon Abang was kidnapped came just just a few days after medical doctors went on strike in response to the kidnapping of their colleague, Dr. John Robbin Esu, who has been held captive for nearly three weeks. The kidnapped medical doctor was yet to be released as at press time.

Additionally, just last week, the wife of Chief Asukwo Eweme Ulap Okon, also known as Levile, a prominent political figure, was abducted in Oron.
