Zubby Michael Claps Back at Critics Over Red T-Shirt At Junior Pope’s Funeral

Nollywood actor Zubby Michael has fired back at his critics who slammed him for wearing a red T-shirt to the funeral of his late friend and colleague, Junior Pope. The actor faced backlash for his casual and irregular attire at the funeral in Enugu, with Ossai Ovie Success, an aide to the Delta State governor, labeling his outfit as “disrespectful,” “annoying,” and “inappropriate.”

Fellow actress Angela Okorie also joined the chorus of criticism, suggesting that Zubby Michael only attended the funeral due to her persistent criticism rather than genuine affection for the deceased.

However, Zubby Michael has now responded to the criticism by sharing a screenshot of a fan defending his red attire. The fan, @treasureking_, pointed out that black is not the only appropriate color for mourning and encouraged Zubby Michael’s detractors to do their research.

The fan wrote, “@zubbymichael For people wey de yarn rubbish cuz u wear red Make dem browse am and know say no be only black dem de wear mourn” (Translation: “For those talking nonsense about your red shirt, tell them to research and know that it’s not only black that’s worn for mourning”).

Zubby Michael’s response is a clear indication that he won’t be bullied into conforming to traditional funeral attire norms.
