The Niger State Police Command has apprehended two suspects in connection with the murder of Umar Mohammed, a health worker, who was fatally stabbed at a wedding ceremony by a group of hoodlums in the Gbeganu area of Minna, the state capital.

The tragic incident took place last Friday shortly after Mohammed arrived at the wedding venue. Eyewitnesses reported that more than 10 hoodlums, armed with dangerous weapons, invaded the gathering.

According to witnesses, as Mohammed attempted to exit the wedding venue, one of the assailants stabbed him in the head with a dagger.

In an official statement, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, revealed that Mohammed had been on his way home from work when he decided to stop by the wedding ceremony.

According to him, “On 17/5/2024 at about 2200hrs, it was reported at Kpakungu Division that there was a wedding ceremony at Gbeganu area, while some miscreants from the Area reportedly led by one Ukasha and others armed with dangerous weapons attacked a victim named Umar Mohammed 35yrs.”

The state police image maker explained that the victim was inflicted with serious injury on the head, and he was rushed to General Hospital Minna, where he later gave up the ghost and was confirmed dead by a doctor.

“The police patrol teams were drafted to the scene and two suspects were arrested while others fled from the scene,” he revealed.

Abiodun stated that efforts are continuing to capture the suspects who escaped, and the incident remains under investigation.
